The Online Regional Travel Group has made its first major acquisition with the purchase of Wayfarers World Travel, owner of JustTheFlight.com.

The Isle of Man-based ORTG has created its own portfolio of travel websites for communities around the British Isles, based on regional airport hubs.

The enlarged company, including Guernesy-based Wayfarers, will have an annual turnover of around £30 million and push 50,000 bookings via the web in 2007.

ORTG founder and managing director, Brian Kelly, said: “The group [ORTG] has expanded considerably in the last few years, particularly in the online sector.

“We have been seeking acquisitions throughout the British Isles and therefore Wayfarers, with its strong local reputation, highly skilled staff and rapidly growing online presence, fitted our criteria perfectly.”

Kelly said the purchase of Wayfarers is likely to be first of a number of acquisitions by the company in the coming months as it looks to boost its portfolio of online products.
