Amadeus has strengthened its position in the Irish leisure market with a raft of new travel agency deals.

The technology firm announced five Irish agencies - Shandon Travel, Dawson Travel, Sunway Travel and Keller Travel - are switching from rival providers.

It has also claimed new business with agency start up Freedom Travel, as well as the renewing of an existing deal for a further five years with Travelbroker.

In October Amadeus announced Lee Travel, Limerick Travel, and Travelpaths had become clients, and Heffernan’s had re-signed a long-term deal.

Volker Lorenz, general manager of Amadeus Ireland, claimed the firm has a large and growing market share in Ireland due to its dedicated local support team.

Clare Dunne, owner of Travelbroker, and Paul Dawson, owner of Dawson Travel, both commended the support Amadeus had given their firms.

Ciara Mooney, founder of Freedom Travel, said: “When you’re founding a travel agency, choosing a technology partner and GDS supplier is a big decision as it’s at the core of the business.

“The team at Amadeus were incredibly supportive and professional, and we were able to get up and running very easily.”
