Travelport’s ViewTrip online itinerary service has gone mobile in the form of an application for smartphone users in the UK and Ireland.

It is claimed to be one of the first, fully-integrated GDS-powered travel itinerary apps available for iPhone and Android devices.

Functionality includes live flight alerts, airport and city guides, location information, weather forecasts, currency conversion and itinerary management.

The app will be available in other countries from Q2 2012 when the phased roll-out continues.

ViewTrip Mobile was developed in partnership with mobile travel services provider ManticPoint.

Jackie Lacey, managing director of Chelsea Travel Management, which has been involved in the testing phase of the app, said: “This is certainly one of the richest apps of its kind that I’ve seen in terms of content and functionality.

“The initial feedback from our travellers has been very positive and the product has further enhanced our online offering to clients.”

Travelport product innovation vice president Jason Nash said: “Mobile technology is playing an increasingly important part of a traveller’s overall experience.

“We are constantly developing new products that satisfy the needs of the travel community and are thrilled with the positive impact ViewTrip mobile is already making.”
