Google’s algorithm rather than people-based approach will ensure the search giant fails to dominate travel in the way it has other sectors, Travel Technology Europe delegates will be told next month.
The annual trade show at Earl’s Court, London, which will mark its 10th year on February 5 and 6 2013, has lined up author and Guardian technology editor Charles Arthur as its keynote speaker.
In his address entitled ‘Google: Organising the World’ Arthur, who wrote “Digital Wars: Apple, Google, Microsoft and the Battle for the Internet”, will claim that despite Google’s acquisitions of ITA Software and Frommers it won’t dominate like it has in areas such as search, mapping, video and smartphone operating systems.
This year TTE’s programme of conference sessions and masteclasses will offer more than 40 keynote speeches, industry panel debates, practical case studies, and interactive events.
David Chapple, TTE event director, said: “This year, to celebrate the event’s 10 year anniversary, TTE has brought on more industry leading experts than ever before and has pulled together an impressive line-up of the brightest minds in the travel technology industry.
“Travel Technology Europe is a must-visit for anyone interested in developing their business strategy and staying up to date with the latest technology trends and this year’s speakers will not disappoint.
“We’re thrilled that Charles Arthur will be presenting a keynote as part of the 10 year anniversary edition – he’s a fantastically knowledgeable individual whose most recent book delves into how the tentacles of Google are now inextricably linked with the travel technology industry.
“As an expert in both technology and social media, he will be able to provide intelligence to buyers that will help keep them up to date with industry trends and improve their competitive edge.”
Travolution is once again partnering with TTE and will host two sessions one on the future of distribution including contributions from the three main global GDSs and another on the social graph with Facebook and Gogobot.
