A business traveller social network exclusively for women is seeking ambassadors in 100 cities around the world to help spread the word.
Maiden Voyage was set up seven years ago by director Carolyn Pearson, who has since run it part-time, but she is poised to leave her role as easyJet head of commercial systems this month to become a full time e-commerce consultant.
As part of a portfolio of roles she will be able to dedicate more time to running Maiden Voyage.
The network offers a place for female travellers to meet online and share tips and recommendations, but has also been working with hotels and restaurants in destinations to train them to be more female-friendly.
To date there are just five ambassadors operating for Maiden Voyage, but Pearson says she has an ambition to increase that to 100 in 100 cities within a year and to increase the network of female business travellers from the 2,000 it has today.
Ambassadors can earn some commission, but one of the key benefits is that they can promote themselves as businesswomen to the network on maiden-voyage.com.
“I want my ambassadors’ network to link me with women’s networks in these cities,” said Pearson. “I’m looking to take on as many members of the network as I can get. I don’t have a set goal because I don’t know what’s achievable.
“My ethos is to make business travel safe and social for women. They do not want to stay in a room and feel intimidated. You have to be sensitive to the fact that as a female business traveller you have multiple roles to play. I want to make sure hotels are really catering for women.”
Maiden Voyage operates an online training programme for hoteliers and also mystery shops properties to ensure it is only recommending the most appropriate to its network. It also works with affiliates like spa operators.
