An online tool for young journalists to get their work published has been developed by Gapyear.com.
The writers academy has been set up to help first-time travel writers break into the travel industry by developing their writing skills and giving travellers the opportunity to get their work published on the gap year social networking site.
The academy is aimed at young journalists looking to boost their portfolio and backpackers recently returned from their travels wanting to share their experiences and stories.
It comes with a number of writing guidelines and advisory material written by professional journalists for members to follow and use.
Members of the academy can improve their writing skills with the help of accredited journalists. They also get to see their work published online, improve their CVs and pitch for press trips.
Gapyear.com travel editor Macca Sherifi said: “The Gapyear.com Writers Academy is a fantastic way to display your work and to get noticed as a writer; we really can’t wait to see what people come up with.
“One of the most common questions I get is ‘how do I become a travel writer?’ Now people have the tools at their disposal to get their work published online, and the great thing is it’s completely free. We’ll give pointers on how to improve style and structure and make sure that people understand what it takes to be a travel writer.
“Everyone’s got a story to tell. We want to publish those stories on gapyear.com and tell the world what you’ve been up to.”
