OTA e-Travel credits Splunk for websites efficiency drive

An Athens-based OTA claims to have reduced website downtime by 90% having implemented software designed to improve operational efficiency.

Among a series of operational improvements e-Travel, which operates sites in Russia, Greece, Cyprus, Romania and Bulgaria, said this represented potential revenue of $12 million.

The online retailer started using Splunk Enterprise in 2010, offering it real-time operational insight into the performance of its sites.

As well as the improvement from cutting downtime, e-Travel said better tracking and reviewing of supplier agreements and payments led to $85,000 annually in reimbursements.

The firm also cut the mean time to resolution of IT incidents from five hours to 30 minutes per incident, saving around $150,000 annually in manpower costs.

Anastasia Tsiloglou, e-Travel director of product development, said: “Splunk Enterprise is making a tremendous impact on the business at e-Travel through cost savings as well as new revenue streams.

“The development team can now detect errors and anomalies and process complex, heavy queries in seconds. Using other platforms, this would be unrealistic.”
