Docleaf, a travel industry health and safety monitoring group, has launched a website to give agents and operators access to compliance levels of holiday accommodation.

Travelsafe will comprise an online database giving the health and safety rating of hotels and resorts used by travel providers, alongside a self-assessment form that can be completed by suppliers themselves to obtain an entry.

Accommodation will be ranked Gold, Silver, Bronze or non-compliant.

Dr David Perl of Travelsafe said: “Online travel arrangers offer thousands of hotels but certainly wouldn’t be able to conduct full health and safety audits in every one.

“In addition, they offer a variety of accommodation from large chains to small independents - across this broad spectrum health and safety standards vary tremendously.

“Travelsafe enables travel arrangers to conduct cost effective checks online to obtain an instant health and safety rating.”

Online travel agent Opodo is currently using the system to verify holiday accommodation.
