User review website TripAdvisor has revealed details of new functionality to be introduced during 2007 as part of a major programme of improvements to the site.

A significant redesign has been completed by the Massachusetts-based company and is expected to be unveiled during the second quarter of next year after usability testing has been carried out.

The new site will have enhanced navigation and structure in what is being called a “complete overhaul” by chief executive Steve Kaufer.

“We’ve been so very successful in growing the site, but like many sites we have been busy adding more content to each page but not taking any away,” he added.

Meanwhile in a major move into the social networking arena associated so closely with the elements of Web 2.0, Kaufer revealed TripAdvisor will launch a member-to-member conversation tool during the first six months of 2007.

The project will build on the existing forums section of the site but will allow users to pose questions directly to reviewers of hotel properties via a messaging system based on screen names, rather than e-mail addresses.

Kaufer said the development was one of the most significant it has introduced as it looks to improve the community aspect of the site.
