Opodo is hoping to put a troublesome early start to 2007 by unveiling a new management for the UK.

The appointment of a new UK director, commercial director and head of marketing follows a turbulent period for the online travel agency after it put a dramatic redundancy programme into action over the Christmas holiday period.

Caroline Noble will become UK director; commercial responsibilities will be headed by Alex Gisbert; and Paul Treanor has been promoted to head of marketing.

All three will work in the recently de-centralised management structure put in place by new chief executive Ignacio Martos, who took over the reins at the OTA in November last year.

A total of 57 people have been made redundant since Martos replaced Simon Vincent, mainly in group-wide positions.

Martos said: “The internet is in a period of rapid growth both globally and in the UK and I am certain this new structure and decentralised model will provide both customers and partners with an excellent online travel service and deliver a consistently improving financial performance.

“We have achieved great success to date to become one of the leading pan-European online travel brands with sales of around €1.2 billion for 2006 and I am confident the new team will ensure the momentum generated will continue.”
