TravelSupermarket has retained a contract to provide meta search facilities to the Guardian website after a fiercely contested battle for the business.

Guardian Media Group officials called a pitch earlier this year for the high-profile position of sole search engine for flights, hotels and holidays following the end of an existing contract with TravelSupermarket ran out.

It is understood TravelSupermarket pitched against at least two other search providers for the contract.

Winning the rights to power the Guardian’s travel search engine for another 12 months comes just six weeks after TravelSupermarket secured a contract to power similar search facilities on the website belonging to the Telegraph Media Group, owners of the Daily Telegraph.

Kate Morgan-Locke, head of GNM Ventures, said: "The Guardian travel site has always generated a good response from users, but the relaunch last year, with the provision of contextual link into articles – has increased response even more.

Chris Nixon, managing director of travelsupermarket.com, added: “It is an important partnership for us and for our providers who benefit from the additional traffic the site supplies.

"The search facility is fully integrated within the editorial content of the site, providing a consistent user experience.”
