Monarch Airlines has become the first European airline to accept customer bookings via the PayPal online payment system.

The PayPal service has grown massively in recent years as ecommerce has expanded to include more retail services such as online supermarkets and auction systems.

Passengers using FlyMonarch.com will be able to use the PayPal system in the same way as services such as Ebay, principally as a way of storing their personal details and financial payment system.

FlyMonarch.com managing director Liz Savage said: “Being the first European airline to offer the PayPal payment option is great news for our customers, many of whom are already PayPal account holders, and will help to further streamline our online booking process on flyMonarch.com.

“It also gives registered travel agents who book on flyMonarch.com another flexible way to pay and manage their booking activity without having to rely on credit or debit cards."
