Travel price comparison site Cheapflights has launched its first foreign language site after 12 years – cheapflug.de in Germany.

The launch was widely expected in the industry and follows similar dedicated country sites for Canada in 2007 and the US in 2003.

The new site is the first to be launched on a common technology platform introduced by the company late last year in North America and followed by the UK this summer.

Cheapflights head of international Mo Bulbrook, who took over from Hugo Burge earlier this year, said: "Cheapflug.de will help our users in Germany find not only great deals but will also provide a terrific resource for researching travel information and finding inspirational holiday destinations."

Former-Cheapflights boss David Soskin told Travolution in 2007 the company would have a presence in every developed online travel market within half a decade.

New Cheapflights' chief executive Chris Cuddy said: “Germany is a significant step forward in Cheapflights' international expansion and is part of Cheapflights’ wider strategy to go global within the next five years.

“Our newly redesigned technology platform enables Cheapflights to embark on this launch with minimal additional investment.

“We are most encouraged to see the extremely positive initial response from German users and our existing travel partners who embrace our international ambitions to develop multi-national business relationships.”
