Kayak joins rush to crack German market

Kayak is to reinforce its efforts in the growing German market and introduce a new channel on its website to distribute special offers and deals for partners.

The company’s new European managing director, Faisal Galaria, said the meta search engine would concentrate primarily over the coming months on boosting its presence in markets outside of the UK, beginning in Germany.

This follows news this week of the launch of price comparison site Cheapflights in Germany, under the cheapflug.de banner.

Galaria, who joined Kayak in September, told Travolution the company would be “recruiting people on the ground locally” in the coming weeks.

The German push will be followed by moves to grow its operations in France and Spain, Galaria said.

Kayak is also hoping to launch a dedicated new online channel alongside its flights, hotels and car hire tabs specifically to publish deals from advertisers.

The section will not use Kayak’s existing meta search functionality but will be a shop window on special offers provided by its commercial partners.

Kayak is already in Germany. I can't speak for Kayak but I suspect it sees the quickest growth now in the German market, thus why it will be channelling their overseas efforts there. I don't think the story said they would be scaling down their UK operation. On the contrary I suspect.

Shouldn't they be concentrating to crack the UK market? Asked a number of work colleagues around me and no one has heard of them. I am not suggesting this is the case in every office, up and down the land, but it seems to me that companies are quick too expand, without really cracking a one market. Anyone agree (or not?)
