Tourists are increasingly using their own mobile phones in-resort for emergencies and browsing for travel information, a survey has found.

The poll of 500 consumers found that over a quarter use their mobiles to request flight information prior to returning home from a trip.

The survey conducted by mobile concierge service provider Mantic Point also found that 12% of consumers needed some form of emergency assistance during their annual holiday.

A further nine per cent requested weather information.

The survey indicates the growing use of mobile for travel-related services alongside traditional ‘phone home’ calls.

This year a number of major travel brands have launched mobile applications or dedicated services for handsets.

Mantic Point works with a number of travel clients including BAA, easyJet and WAYN.
