WTM08 - DFDS to launch multi-passenger booking tool

DFDS Seaways is to add unlimited group booking capability to its website next year in a move it claims is a shipping industry first.

The ferry operator will launch the system in the second quarter of 2009 in a bid to boost the number of bookings via the web from its current level of around 60%.

Currently up to ten individuals can be booked via the operator’s website under a single transaction.

The system will allow unlimited registrations and a personalised system to manage a booking such as add destination excursion and on-board meals.

DFDS processed just 2% of bookings online in 2003, UK sales director Andrew Crowe told Travolution.

It is expected the new system will cater primarily for groups of ten to 20 travellers as the majority of very large bookings are still carried out via the operator’s call centre.
