Car-rental distribution specialist CarTrawler will go live with Datalex and SITA in the first quarter of 2009.

The deal which see CarTrawler's multi-supplier platform integrated into Datalex's travel distribution platform and SITA's Horizon airline reservation and management system, gives the car-rental specialist access to more than 100 airlines.

The SITA deal was announced in July 2007 while the Datalex contract was sealed in February this year.

CarTrawler chief executive Greg Turley said the technology was currently in testing. The company has also just signed a deal with Air Malta and details of a further airline will be revealed next week.

Turley also hinted at a major accommodation contract for the company.

He was speaking as CarTrawler unveiled details of its desktop API tool for travel agents, scheduled for release next year.

Turley said the company was already in "serious" negotiations with a number of major retailers.

"We're getting interest from a lot of angles, both business and leisure. We need to take on more staff to cope with the demand.

"The downturn  has been good for us because people are looking for revenue from new streams."
