Low fare airline Monarch has announced that from 30 April 2009 its flights will be withdrawn from sale via Amadeus and Galileo meaning the airline no longer has a presence in the GDS systems.

Agents will still have access to all of Monarch's scheduled flight stock via its website, monarch.co.uk, and sister trade brand, leading flight-only operator Avro.

Bookings through Avro not only allow agents to pay just a deposit at the time of booking but also have the added benefits of commissionable fares and the ease of booking via Viewdata, the dedicated agents' website avroagents.com or an XML link.

Commenting on this move, managing director of Monarch's scheduled services division, Liz Savage said: "We have taken the decision to withdraw our presence from the GDS systems as we have seen a huge decrease in the number of direct GDS sales.

"This is largely due to agents using other methods to access our lowest fares online via monarch.co.uk or via our sister trade brand, Avro."
