Meta search site hotelscombined.com has attributed its triple-digit hike in UK traffic to good progress in the affiliates channel.

In the first three months of this year, the Australian site lifted its UK traffic by 135%.

A spokesperson told Travolution that direct visits to the site were also a strong source of traffic. But traffic from its paid search campaigns remains flat.

Hotelscombined added claims that its affiliate offer is working because the focus on hotels allows [it] to make a more appropriate commercial offer to partners and affiliates seeking hotel content.

The business was funded and established in 2005 by a team including former executives from RatesToGo.com and hotelclub.com. It has been self-sustaining and profitable since the middle of 2007.

The spokesperson acknowledged that competition is strong and quite advanced in the UK, and while it is working on it system to support other languages, the current strategy is to operate in non-English speaking markets from the centralized domain.

Its marketing campaigns are run globally and are exclusively offline.
