Lastminute.com co-founder Martha Lane Fox is set to be appointed as a digital champion for the government.

Lane Fox, who co-founded the online travel agency in 1997 and is seen as one of the trailblazers of the internet age, is set to take on the role as part of the government's efforts to encourage more people to go online.

The news, revealed by Travolution sister-title Computer Weekly,  was revealed at a meeting earlier this week. The aim is to get the 17 million people in the UK who do not have access to the internet online.
