Lastminute.com has appointed a new European marketing director, Mark Newton, who will be joining the business in September 2009.
Mark Newton has 13 years' experience marketing on and offline businesses and building online brand identity. Mark is joining lastminute.com having spent the last five years helping American Express grow its digital business internationally.
Following the departure of Simon Thompson, the European managing director and chief marketing officer, in September, lastminute.com confirmed it would not be directly backfilling his role, instead appointing a specific European marketing director, reporting directly into Ian McCaig, lastminute.com chief executive; the country-based managing directors will also report directly to Ian.
Mark proved the ideal candidate with his evident wealth of pan-European digital marketing, commercial wisdom and strategic leadership.
Mark will lead pan-European centres of excellence and overall brand direction, while country marketing directors will continue focusing on local marketing and brand building.
In the UK, the marketing director continues to be Mark Fells who joined the lastminute.com business in April 2009.
