Mobile giant Nokia has bought travel social-network site Dopplr for an undisclosed sum as it seeks to develop its services for mobile users.

Dopplr allows users to share details of planned trips, set up meetings while away and suggest places to visit, stay and eat. Nokia told the Financial Times it had paid "a fraction" of the $15 million reported on technology blog Techcrunch.

The site launched two years ago and is based in east London, with former Nokia executive Marko Ahtisaari as chief executive.

Like other social network sites, Dopplr has yet to make any money, but had begun to seek commercial deals with hotel booking sites.
