Orbitz Worldwide is offering commission to agents who book travel via its website.

The online travel giant is offering commission for hotel reservations and travel packages on orbitzforagents.com.

The first 500 travel agents to sign up by the end of March will receive higher commissions for a year.

Commission rates have been set at 10% for hotel reservations and 4% for travel package bookings.

The initiative is designed to encourage bookings from customers who still like to use a traditional agent.

The involvement of a traditional agent could also lead to higher spend and group bookings, which currently present challenges for many OTAs.
