Microsoft and Expedia.co.uk have unveiled a dedicated web browser for travellers enabling them to book direct from their browser.

The new Expedia.co.uk version of Internet Explorer 8 will offer surfers up to date information on travel deals, additional functions to help navigate around sites and access to weather and currency information.

The launch comes as Microsoft research found 65% of Brits believe the best travel deals are to be found online although 22% struggle to navigate around the web.

Alex Gisbert, director of online partner marketing, Expedia said:  “It makes perfect sense to combine Expedia’s online travel expertise and ease of use with Internet Explorer 8.

“We hope the new customised browser will really help users enjoy a faster, easier and safer browsing experience than ever before.”

To address concerns about credit card fraud the Expedia.co.uk version of Internet Explorer 8 includes InPrivate browsing which means credit card details and other personal information cannot be viewed by others.

It also incorporates a SmartScreen to protect online travellers safe from dangers like malicious software and phishing threats.
Julia Owen, Internet Explorer product manager, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Expedia to help our customers book their holidays quickly and easily.

“The new Expedia.co.uk version of Internet Explorer 8 has been designed to provide intrepid travellers with the information they need, with enhanced security and safety features that help protect travellers from the threats they face online.”

Other features available to include Expedia Visual Search which delivers images with search results and the Expedia Holiday Countdown, a downloadable desktop gadget that countdown to the start of the holiday.
